A Guide to Star Wars (Ongoing)
and Star Wars: Republic comic book series.
In December 1998 Dark Horse Comics
released a new Star Wars comic series simply titled Star
Wars, more commonly referred to as Star Wars
(Ongoing). This series would depart from most of their
previous comic series' in that different stories would all
fall under the same series umbrella title, i.e. Star
Wars (Ongoing), and stories would be told in a
chronological order beginning prior to the events of Episode
I: The Phantom Menace and continuing on after those
events.
By 2002 and the release of Episode
II: Attack of the Clones, Star Wars (Ongoing)
now numbered over 40 issues and while the early comics of the
series had focused on expanding the storylines of secondary
characters seen in Episode I: The
Phantom Menace (e.g. Jedi Masters Ki-Adi Mundi and Mace Windu, and bounty hunter Aurra
Sing), by 2002 the series was focusing on the single story of Jedi
Knight Quinlan Vos (who also made a blink-and-you'll-miss-it
appearance in Episode I: The Phantom
Menace).
With the release of Episode II: Attack
of the Clones and the start of the Clone Wars, Star Wars
(Ongoing) was renamed Star Wars: Republic as Dark
Horse Comics (along with novel publisher Del Rey and
children's book publisher Scholastic) began telling stories
from the Clone Wars in a
three-year publishing arc that matched the three-year timeline gap
between Episode II: Attack of the Clones
and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
In February 2006 the series took on a new name, Star
Wars: Dark Times, but maintained the Star Wars:
Republic name (albeit hidden within the comic's credits). Star Wars (Ongoing) / Star Wars: Republic
/ Star Wars: Dark
Times is Dark Horse Comics' longest continuously
published Star Wars comic book series with over 100 comic books
having being published to date.
